Holt SAC Venue :Cley Sunday June 1st

Posted by admin - 02/06/08 at 05:06 pm

With a week or so of great fishing on the North Norfolk coast, anticipations were very high among the 10 members who turned out for this match. We were greeted by a flat calm crystal clear sea and humid, damp conditions, possibly perfect conditions for the smooth hound action we all wanted.

The field were spread well apart with several opting for the left, some straight over from car park and the rest optiing for the long hike to the wreck and beyond.
As the match progressed it became sadly apparant that the fish were few and far between with only small Bass and the odd flounder showing up, no smoothhounds today..
After a very quiet 5hrs the winning weight came from Sam Attew with 3 fish for 1.14, closely followed by Dene “Smoooth” Conway also with 3 fish for 1.12 2/3, our junior angler Henry Randall secured third place with 2 fish for 1.6 2/3 and sneaking into 4th was Dennis “whinger” Hunn also with 2 fish for 1.3 1/3. Richard “Golden Bollox” Ives peaked at 5th place with one fish, along with John Neave in 6th. Four angler failed to catch, including our illustrious leader Tony “Genesis” Chidwick, so all in a dissappointing session with the smutts not showing up, lets hope they have’nt left for another year and hopefully they will make a show on Friday for our evening match…..

Match 1
Rhyl Foryd, 27/04/08.

Three juniors fished the first leg of the junior summer league at Rhyl Foryd on Sunday 27th April. Rain earlier in the day, and low lying cloud, may have put a few off.

The match started 3 hours before high water, on a 24.3 ft tide, and as the first casts went in, the estuary was beginning to flood, prime time for the Flounders.

The match finished at 4pm. Tom Jones took the honours and £7.50 1st prize, with 4 Flounders for 141 cms, Elliot Roberts was second with 1 Flounder of 35 cms for £5, and Evan Adams got the third prize of £2.50 for his efforts.

All fish were returned to fight another day.

CBVSAC junior Winter league,
Match 2,
Conwy Morfa, 15/03/2008.

Match 2 of the Junior Winter league, went ahead as planned despite the forecast, with only Tom and Elliot braving the heavy rain, to fish.

We fished at Conwy again, and with fresh crab, hopes of a Flounder or 2 were high.

However, after 3 hours of getting rained on, it was time to pack up, with none of the rods even registering a bite.

The final league placings are;

1. Thomas Jones 20 points 60cms
2. Elliot Roberts 19 points 19 cms.

CBVSAC junior Winter league,
Match 1,
Conwy Morfa, 16/02/2008.

Only 2 juniors braved the biting Easterly breeze to fish the first leg of the Junior Winter league, at Conwy Morfa. With temperatures forecast to fall to minus 6 tonight, it was cold enough, but the wind chill must have taken another 5 degrees off.

It was all quiet, until 18-20, when Elliot had a knock that he missed, but he managed to find a Flounder on his next cast, which measured 19cms.

Tom had retired to the car between casts, due to the falling temperature, but the sight of a couple of fish spurred him on, and upon reeling in, he found a Flounder of 24cms had taken a fancy to his crab bait.

Next cast, with 3 crab halves as bait, then back to the car for 15 minutes. On returning to the rods, Toms was nodding away. We rushed down to the waters edge and Tom reeled in a double header, of a 19cm Flounder, and a 17cm 5 bearded Rockling.

Elliot missed a good bite, then he was unlucky to lose a Flounder at the waters edge.

The end of match couldnt come too soon, and at 8pm, the scores were 60cm to Tom, earning him the £10 first prize. Elliot got the remaining prize of £5, with his 19cms. All fish were returned.

Next stop Maccy Ds with the prize money.
