Sam Hook Monday Night Sea League
South Beach Yarmouth, Main Cross Road - Monday 29th September
A fine night kicked off the winter campaign and as reported the whiting and the odd codling were really there this time giving us our best ever start for the winter. With a good turnout of 15 there were some amazing weights for a 3 1/2 hr match with a total of 367 fish being caught which is also our best total ever, let’s hope it continues.
With so many fish around it was down to who had the right peg, who could find the distance and who had the right fish bait. It was down to our Kevil “bassman” Chilvers who managed all three particularly with his fresh, fresh herring to take top honours with 11lb 7.5 oz from 34 fish. Second spot went to Clyde “end peg” Leggett who took advantage of his Irish mackeral with 9lb 9oz from 26 fish. Not to be out done, Wayne “rocketman” Perring took the final podium slot using not so Irish bait with 9lb 7oz from 31 fish.
With the whiting being around all summer and with them showing in numbers so early it looks as though we just may have a bumper season this year along with some decent codling. However, having just said that may have just blown the chance of this happenning. Anyway let’s see what North beach can give us before jumping to that one!!!
