Norfolk Norfolk evening League – Weybourne – Monday 22nd December
A quiet night of no wind with “balmy” temperatures on an ebbing tide gave us all some hope of a real haul at last. However, the quirks of nature dented that expectation giving us high pressure and a neap tide with next to no movement. Although the rafts of stonking whiting are still eluding us, the usual good turn out of 10 did manage 141 fish which was 59 more than last match.
With a “lucky” codling, first thought to be a pout, Tony “last cast” Thomas took the honours with 7lb 13oz from 20 fish. At last the 2008 champion, Kevin “dogman” Kibblewhite, finds some form albeit from an end peg to take 2nd spot with 6lb 2 2/3oz from 19 fish. Closely followed by that man again, Ricky “no cley man” Hayward with 6lb 1 1/3oz from 20 fish now with 5 podium finishes in 6 matches and conveniently forgetting about that blank.
With podium placings coming from both ends and the middle it appears it is a matter of finding the fish to score in our matches. Both close in and distance is catching so there is no real pattern to where to fish and they will switch off without warning but this is the intriging part about this sea fishing game!!! With hordes of pleasurers about over the festive season its back to Muckleburgh and Kelling behind the masts for next match. Let’s hope the north easterlies stay away and the big flood tide brings in those stonking whiting!!!
