Our first match of the summer season kicked off at Sheringham. There was a good turn out from the old faithful considering it was also mother’s day, Oops happy mother’s day mum. With that said the sun was shining and the sea was the colour of mud but it was a small tide. We arrived and got setup just as the tide started coming up. With the bulk of the anglers heading towards the life boat station and just beyond. Some of the more “extreme†anglers, do we really need to mention names by now, headed to old high. First thoughts were that we would all be hunting for the same flattie, and for most of the match that feeling was right. About two hours into the match there was a flurry of activity with small basslets, slugs and flatties coming out quick and fast. Some of the luckier chaps managed something a bit special Dene “Smooth†Conway now re-named “are-soleman†pulled in a stonking Sole just short of a pound and also added 3 Rockling to his tally. Not forgetting Richard “Golden Bollox†Ives found a lone codling somewhere near Scotland I think which won him the match. Our only female member competing today Nicole “Ow my finger†Conway managed 2 fish which was better than some of the blokes did. Peter Loke who also walked the distance with TT and Richard was rewarded with 3 fish to claim 3rd spot and 4th place went to that man again Tony “Yoda†Thomas. Back to mother’s day I had to leave early to cook mum a meal so missed the last hour when another flurry of fished showed. Well from what I understand slugs and small flatties which all count as the club has reduced the size limits for flatties to 18cm, thank god other wise there would have been a few blanks. Not what you want at the start of a new season, also with the new points system in place the whole competition is wide open. I know it’s only the first match but you get the general idea. Well here is to next weeks match, Trimmingham, and fingers crossed the weather gets better for Sunday. Stay tuned fishing fans. The results 1st: Richard Ives 1 fish for 1lb 14 2/3oz  2nd: Dene Conway 4 fish for 1lb 4 2/3oz  3rd: Peter Loke 3 fish for 0.14 2/3oz  4th Tony Thomas 2 fish for 0.10oz  5th Henry Randell 2 fish for 0.6 2/3oz  6th John Neave 2 fish for 0.4 1/3  =7th Nicole Conway fish for 0.3 1/3oz  =7th Ian Gedney 1 fish for 0.3 1/3oz  9th Ray ward 1 fish for 0.3oz  =10th Colin Howard 1 fsh for 0.2 1/3oz  =10th Robert Ford 1 fish for 0.2 1/3oz  |

17 anglers braved blustery winds and squally showers to fish the final leg of Colwyn Bay Victoria sea angling clubs Winter shore league at Conwy Morfa earlier today. The pressure was on as i was top of the league going into this match, tied on points with Mitch but with 80 grammes more than him over the previous 4 matches. We walked off from the carpark, but me and Mitch ended up running to get the spot next to the pontoon. He beat me but my story is i let him because i didnt want to fish too close to the pontoon, and im sticking to it! Things were pretty quiet for the first hour and a half, with just a couple of Rockling being caught. Terry had winkled one out, which put extra pressure on me as if i weighed in, we would top the team competition as well. My lucky charm arrived an hour and a half in. ( Colin was also having a walk past my rod at Penmaenmawr last winter when i pulled out the biggest Rockling ive ever seen at 00-07-12!!! And as part of a double header! Hurry up and get back fishing Col, i need you!) It wasnt long before Mitch caught up with a slug of his own. It had a fat little belly on it, and we were both sure it was bigger than mine. The pendulum had swung, squeaky bum time. Low water passed and the tide started flooding and there was a brief flurry of activity. The ever popular Mr Illman pulled in a double header, then i had another nibble. Once again i gave it a minute or 2 and eventually reeled in a nice fat specimen slug to put the pressure back on Mitch. The flood got stronger and Terry managed a double header of slugs, including the biggest of the day, then it all went quiet. A mini twister was the only other excitment as it took out brolley and Mark Hills rodrest into the air before depositing them a few yards down the beach! An amazing sight. Things remained the same until the end of the match, leaving me the Winter league champion 2009. The match winner was Sue Price, who managed to weigh a Rockling in at all 5 matches of the league, with her bag of 5 Rockling for 0.54 kgs. Terry was second with his 3 Rockling for .32 kgs including the heaviest fish of the match at .21 kgs. I managed third with my 2 for .29 kgs and John Jones was fourth with 4 little ones for .25 kgs. Dave Lunt ( centre in the above photy )was fifth with 2 for .24 kgs and Alan Illman was 6th with 2 for .22 kgs. The leagues top end is as follows. 1. Kev Jones 166 points 4.68 kgs  2. Dave Mitchell 160 points 4.44 kgs  3. Terry Jones 148 points 5.68 kgs  4. Alan Illman 147 points 2.47 kgs |

CBV SAC Match 4 – Colwyn Bay – 28th February 2009
21 anglers fished the fourth match, with many of us not expecting to catch anything, nevermind weigh in.
We headed straight out from the Arches, and as everyone else was casting as far as they could, i decided to employ some tactics.
Three hook rig, size 6 hooks with small worm baits, dropped against the side of the rock groyne. A slug hunt!
It worked straight away too. I dropped one first cast, then had a single then a double within the first half hour. The tide was still ebbing, and it was still daylight!
Mitch, who was the other side of the groyne, cottoned on to my tactics, and against all his principles, joined in, as did Terry a little later on, and then Blaster.
The fishing was steady right through the match, although it did slow down on the flood which was surprising, but there couldnt have been many Rockling left by then!
The match winner was Dave Mitchell with 21 Rockling for 1.82 Kgs.
Terry Jones was second with 17 for 1.75 Kgs. He had some decent fish, including a belter of 7 ounces but the time spent casting out probably cost him the win!
Kev Jones had 19 smaller ones for 1.53 Kgs and third spot.
John Jones had spent the whole match casting sandeel as far as he could and he kept saying there was a Dog out there with his name on it. Fair dos! Last cast he went and caught it, which saved a bit of messing about looking for the heaviest fish, and along with his several slugs, took fourth place.
Me and Mitch are joint top of the league going into the final match, im just ahead on weight. Blaster is third but is missing the final match, so hopefully we all blank next week, and things stay the same!
