A good turnout of 18 for this one, on a bitterly cold night with an onshore wind and a couple of hundred yards of white surf to cast into, it looked grim to say the least!
The first couple of hours were hard work with just the odd fish showing, but the whiting came on as the water got deeper, although they were mostly undersize, or only just in.
Billy McLintock gave us a masterclass, with a bag of 15 whiting, 2 dogs and a dab for 4.45 kgs. Terry Jones managed to find a decent codling and 9 whiting for 2.70 in 2nd and Gary McLeod had 12 whiting for 2.09 in 3rd. Norman Dorling took 4th with 7 whiting and a flounder for 1.56, to hold on to his lead in the league, with one match left. Fifth place went to Dave Mitchell with 4 whiting, a dog and a rockling for 1.50, and 6th was Mike Peters with 10 whiting for 1.48.
Sue Price took the ladies prize with 2 rockling for 0.22 and top team were Norman Dorling and Gary McLeod with 68 points. The heaviest fish was Terrys codling of 1.45 ( 3-03-08 lbs.)
Match 8 - Penmaenmawr - Saturday 19th October 2008
15 members this time, including a few new faces, welcome all of you, I was otherwise engaged for this one, so Norman stepped in and got lumbered with the biggest weigh-in of the year so far!
All 15 weighed in, with Dave Mitchell taking the lion`s share, 19 Dogs, a Thornback and a Whiting for 21.91 kgs. Bill McLintock made his first appearance of this league to take 2nd with 14 Dogs and a Whiting for 14.53 kgs, and Gary Bates took 3rd with 14 Dogs for 11.79. 4th place was shared by Barry Haigh, with 8 Dogs and 2 Flounders for 9.52, and Gary McLeod with 9 Dogs and a Whiting for the same weight.

Match 7 - Pwllheli - Saturday 20th September 2008
Just ten of us made the journey down the Lleyn for this one, but at least the weather was on our side, a flat calm sea as warm as an indoor swimming pool and a lovely sunset as we started to fish.
It started slowly for most of us apart from Sam , who found a dog first cast, and Kev who got a couple of dragonets amongst the undersized dabs. The dogs came on later, but the bites were a bit shy, with a lot not finding the hooks.
Gary McLeod ( Sam) took the match with 7 dogs for 3.51 kgs., Mike Peters was 2nd with 4 dogs for 2.60, Kev Jones, 3rd with 4 dogs and 2 dragonets for 2.20, and Terry Jones 4th with 4 dogs for 2.15. John Jones had 3 for 1.59 in 5th and Dave Lunt 2 for 1.16 in 6th.
Gary Bates took the heaviest fish prize with a dog of 0.79 kgs., and Janet Dorling the ladies prize, top team were Kev and Terry with 68 points.
Three juniors fished the final leg of the junior summer league at the Foryd.
The heavy rain of the last few days meant the water was racing downstream, even half way through the flood, bringing all sorts of rubbish with it. The winds had dropped and it was dry for a change but I wasnt banking on there being any fish feeding, we gave it a go anyway.
Within the first half hour, Tom and Elliot had both missed bites, and landed a fish each, maybe it wasnt all doom and gloom
Tom won the match with 2 Eels and 2Flounders for 128 cms.
Elliot was second with a Flounder and an Eel for 69 cms and Stephen was third but unfortunately didnt manage to catch.
These placings led to a tie at the top of the final league table, between Tom and Elliot, both on 72 points.
Elliot took the title with a total length of 617 cms over the 5 matches, 105 cms ahead of Tom. ( I knew those dropped Eels at Flint and Benarth would be costly for Tom!) Stephen was third in the league with 37 points and Evan fourth with 10.
| 1 | Elliot Roberts | 72 | 617cms |
| 2 | Thomas Jones | 72 | 512cms |
| 3 | Stephen Higginson | 37 | 156cms |
| 4 | Evan Adams | 10 | 0cms |
Many thanks to the crew of Bass Hunter who kindly donated a starter beach kit, they had won at an Open recently, which was awarded to Elliot for winning the league.
I hope the ki ds enjoyed all the matches. There were fish caught at every match, so hopefully we can repeat it in the winter league.
83 anglers fished the Victoria Open on Llandudnos North Shore last Saturday night.
The calm conditions meant there was an abundance of undersized Whiting, but there were some over the 27cm landing size, as well as the usual Dogfish and a surprising number of Tub Gurnard.
The match winner was Colwyn Bays Shane Russell, with a total weight of 14.09.06 Lbs, caught from B zone. This earned Shane the first prize of £235 ( 30% of the entry fees ).
Second place, and £117 ( 15% ) was taken by Bill Shepard with a weight of 13.15.04 Lbs, also caught in B zone.
Chris Jewell of was third, with a weight of 12.05.08 Lbs from A Zone earning him £78 ( 10% ).
Prizes of £45 and £30 were awarded to the best 2 weights in each zone, that hadnt won one of the main prizes.
1st in A zone was S.Lewis, with 11.00.00 Lbs, and second was George Smith with 09.07.08 Lbs.
1st in B zone was Ash Sampson with 9.11.04 Lbs, second was R.Hughes with 8.02.04 Lbs.

Match 6 - Club waters rover - Saturday 16th August 2008
Just 13 of us this time, with a forecast of prolonged periods of heavy rain, I`m not surprised some felt the call of the armchair and Match Of The Day!
Match 5 - Porth Iago - Sunday 13th July 2008
10 of us this time, on a brilliantly sunny day with no wind, we couldn`t have ordered it better, however I think we`ll have to have a rethink on these away matches for next year, with fuel prices the way they are.
Everyone weighed in, but some struggled to find their dogs and wrasse so that made it quite interesting when weigh in time arrived.
Mike Jones found a good spot, with his 3 fish bag limit on 4 species - ballans, dogs, pollack, and corkwings, giving him a runaway winning bag of 6.09 kgs. Nearest to him, but well behind was Terry Jones, with 3 ballans, a dog, and a small conger for 3.55 kgs.
Norman Dorling took 3rd with 3.39 to stay top of the league and also winning the final of the K.O. cup. 4th place went to Dave Mitchell with 2.90, 5th was Mike Peters with 2.66, and 6th Gary McLeod with 2.53. This was just sufficient to win him the Trevor Davies cup with 71 points to Norman`s 70 over the last 2 matches.
The heaviest fish prize went to Mike Jones with a ballan wrasse of 1.24 kgs ( 2-11-08 lbs ) and top team were Norman and Gary with 69 points.
Benarth - 20th July 2008
Three juniors fished the fourth leg of the junior summer league, at Benarth on 20/07/08. The weather brightened up about an hour before we were due to begin, and this spot is protected from the wind so it made for quite a pleasant day.
The last match of the league will be held at The Foryd on 07/09/2008, fishing from 14-00 until 17-00.
Going into this match, the current league placings are;
1. Elliot Roberts, 58 points, 548cms
2. Tom Jones, 57 points, 384cms
3. Stephen Higginson, 32 points, 156cms
4. Evan Adams, 10 points, 0cms
At the end of the match, Elliot Roberts was the winner with 4 Eels and a Flounder for 209cms. Tom Jones was second with 3 Eels for 110cms and Stephen Higginson took third prize, but unfortunately failed to catch!

The shore section of Colwyn Bay Victoria sea angling club, held the third leg of their summer league last Saturday.
The match, which was a Holy Island rover, was subject to a bag limit of 3 of each species, to aid conservation.
Norman Dorling carried on his run of good form with a winning bag of 3 wrasse, 3 dogs and a whiting for 4.99 kgs.
Dave Mitchell went mountaineering near South Stack, and found 3 wrasse, 3 pollack, 3 pouting, a dog and a poor cod for 4.72, and 2nd place.
Gary McLeod took 3rd place with 3 dogs and 2 wrasse for 3.75,
and the last of the money went to Adam Davies in 4th with 3 dogs, 3 wrasse, and 3 tompots for 3.72.
